Guidelines for the inpatient treatment of severely malnourished children

GUIDELINES with specific instructions for the treatment of severely malnourished children. The aim is to provide practical help for those responsible for the medical and dietary management of such children. Lack of appropriate care leads to diarrhea, poor appetite, slow recovery and high mortality. There are five sections:

  1. General principles for routine care (the '10 Steps')
  2. Emergency treatment of shock and severe anemia
  3. Treatment of associated conditions
  4. Failure to respond to treatment
  5. Discharge before recovery is complete
