Breastfeeding Counselling: A Training Course

WHO, UNICEF

Published in : 1993

Available in : English, French, Russian, Spanish

Designed to provide health workers with the clinical and interpersonal skills needed to support mothers and their children to breastfeed optimally. It includes guides for the course director and trainers, a participant’s manual, a booklet with overhead figures, a slide book
and annexes. The materials are designed to make it possible for trainers even with limited experience of teaching the subject to conduct up-to-date and effective courses. For health workers who care for mothers and young children, this includes midwives, community health
nurses, paediatric nurses and doctors, particularly those working at the first level of health care. In addition, obstetricians, paediatricians, nutritionists and staff of programmes, such as
control of diarrhoeal diseases and acute respiratory infections, immunization and family planning, might find the course useful, and it will help them to understand how they can support breastfeeding in their programmes.
