Published in : 2004 Available in : English In emergency situations, WFP is responsible for determining whether external assistance is required to meet immediate food needs and whether food aid is the appropriate form of assistance. WFP and its partners also assess what other interventions are needed to promote food-security objectives. It is difficult to obtain precise estimates of emergency needs in crisis situations, because there is little reliable data, access to affected populations is restricted and estimates have to be made quickly. WFP is working to improve its emergency needs assessment capacity.
