Nutrition Policy Discussion Paper No 13 - Effectiveness of Vitamin A Supplementation in the Control of Young Child Morbidity and Mortality in Developing Countries This report presents conclusive evidence that improving the vitamin A status of young children reduced mortality rates by about 23%. The evidence relates to population groups in which there was evidence that vitamin A deficiency was sufficiently prevalent and sufficiently severe to give rise to at least a low prevalence of clinical signs of deficiency.
